From the teachings of Master Ryuho Okawa, we selected prescriptions for people with dementia to find the will to live.
Dementia is damage to the body, not the soul
It is common for old people to develop dementia.
It is similar to how an automobile will eventually stop running. After years of running, it will be damaged. It is perfect to begin with, but still, what gets damaged gets damaged.
Sadly, there are many places that can be damaged, such as loose screws, broken body parts, oil leaks, and disabling of the steering wheel.
And if a car is damaged, no matter how good a driver you are, you cannot race in that car.
The human body also becomes damaged after living for decades. Even if the soul is not damaged, it is inevitable in this world that the body will be damaged...
As for self-care, to some extent, managing one's health and nutrition and keeping one's mind young by always being interested in something will prevent dementia.
Still, when the body is inevitably damaged, it is inevitable, to some extent, that the body will not be able to function adequately.

Diseases in the brain are likely developed when you have memories that you refuse to remember
When she (the person you asked about) looks back on her life, it looks as though the length of time she has actually felt happy is very short. The more she looks back, the more she remembers memories of her being unhappy. In such cases, we try to erase those bad memories as a defense mechanism. This makes us prone to brain diseases such as dementia. In other words, she doesn't want to remember her past.
This thought of not wanting to remember the past creates a disease in the brain to make it forget many things. If the memories bring happiness, such disease will not be caused. However, if the memories she wants to forget outnumbers the ones she wants to remember, she will wish to forget her memories, making her prone to such illnesses.

The more you treat them like a distraction, the more likely they are to develop dementia
If they are treated as a nuisance and cast off as if they were already dead, the only way that they can fight back is by becoming absent-minded. Among the sufferers of dementia there are those who are merely trying to express their defiance at the way they are being badly treated in the home.
Therefore, to prevent old people from becoming senile, it is important that they should be provided with tasks or a job in the home that will give them something to live for. If they are proud of themselves in this way, they will be more satisfied with their lives.
It is up to you if you want to treat old people as if they were a nuisance, but you must realize that the more you do, the more likely they are to contract dementia. And in the end, you are the one who will have to look after them. In the long term, it is you who will be disadvantaged.
So, always hope that your parents and in-laws will be fit and able to work into their old age.
Do not prevent them from having something to live for, or treat them as if they were a pain. Please consider this to be another part of your role as housewife.

Habits to prevent dementia
In the case of ailments of the brain, the root cause is often anxiety. Of course, there are some people who simply wear out their brains, but more often than not it is the person whose thinking is disturbed by constant needless worries or worries that he refuses to let go. Although this can sometimes lead to problems with internal organs, it usually manifests itself in brain problems.
It is crucial to work to get better control of your brain health by dealing with your worries.
It won’t do to worry about insignificant matters. It is similar to a question of house cleaning. If you conscientiously clear out your worries every day, your mind will always feel clean.
From this point onward, give careful consideration regarding measures to avoid senility.
That is to say, it is frequently said that if a person retains the habit of reading a book a week, even after becoming old he will not grow senile. This is a point that you should give great importance to.
In other words, if you want to avoid senility, it is best to read around a book a week.

Caring for pets is one way to rejuvenate
The sooner you lose your zest for life, the sooner it can become dementia.
Even those who are around 50 years old are prone to dementia if they no longer have a job at their company or if their children leave the nest early and they no longer have anything to do and no longer have a purpose in life.
For those people, I encourage them to have a pet. Pets are a sufficient substitute for children in that sense. Pets are living creatures and have many things on their minds. Talking to them and taking care of them also rejuvenates people.

When you realize the cause of a disease that you have not thought about, the disease can be often cured
When a person becomes seriously ill, which is difficult to cure, there is some psychological cause. In many cases, the cause is actually something that the person is unaware of. So there is a part of the disease that is not visible to you, and it is progressing all the time under the surface, which is why the disease may progress.
Among the books I have written, there is a book on the theme of "healing illnesses" called "The Way to Ultra-Definite Health."
When one of my secretaries gave this book to her grandfather, he read it even though he normally does not read Happy Science books at all. And although the grandfather of that secretary was suffering from dementia, merely reading the book caused him to heal in a way verifiable by medical science.
This is something I heard from someone very close to me, so it is an extremely credible account. And the man himself is still alive, so it is a case example that can be confirmed.
So, in this way, there are even cases of "dementia being healed just by reading a Happy Science book." Regarding the question of, "What kinds of illnesses will heal under what circumstances," there are various different cases.
However, because there are many cases in which people become ill for causes that they themselves are not aware of, there is a strong tendency for "an illness to heal because the person suffering became aware of the cause of the illness."
Inside your heart, there is a portion that you yourself cannot see. When this is what generates an illness, shining the truth on the situation can help you become aware of what is going on. And that will start to break the illness down, and you will heal.
However, regarding the question of, "What part of my heart is warped, what part is wrong," you have to discover that on your own through studying the Truth of Buddha and having conversations with Dharma friends.

Finding "food for the next life" believing in the eternal life
What can we do to remain undecayed in old age?
Simply put, don't think, "Nobody knows when we will die, so everything is useless." However, if you look at it from the perspective of "we have eternal souls," then you still have life after you leave your body, and you still have the ability to think. If there are activities in the next life, and even after rebirth, it is very important to have something that will be "food for the next life."

Take on a new challenge in things you used to be enthusiastic about and interested in
I recommend people to practice the modern version of Tadataka Ino's lifestyle. This will also inspire younger people to walk the road of diligence. You can choose a path other than surveying, of course. It will be a problem if everyone actually started surveying the entire nation; that job does not require many people.
When you look back on your life, you can certainly find things that captured your enthusiasm and interest. Your special talent lies in them. In other words, you must have had something that captured your enthusiasm and interest in the past, but which you abandoned or did not pursue in order to focus on a different career path. You may have wanted to study a bit more, but you could not, and thus did not blossom in that area.
For example, you may feel, “I really liked painting when I was young, but I could not continue doing that because I went into an occupation that did not involve painting,” or “I really liked music, but I gave up that path.” Perhaps you may feel, “I really wanted to write novels, but everyone around me said I could not earn a living doing that. So, I became a company employee and continued living as such until my retirement.” You probably have such an experience. In life, however, there is no such thing as “too late.” You can start on a new path, even from today.
As for myself, I can say that at the very least I am working more now than I did in my 30s and 40s. This is because the power of my mind is stronger now than it was in the past. It is also because I have more confidence now. I have confidence based on what I achieved over these past twenty-something years.
